Our mission is to simply provide fellow creatives a platform to stretch their collaborative muscle while giving budding artists, illustrators and copy writers a new means to share, interact, and receive credit for their contributions as published authors.
Cartoonity was born during a weekly brain storming session between associates of AZID and Lunchbox Collective.
The team was tossing around ideas on how the newspaper industry could reinvent itself online which led the team to begin breaking down a traditional newspaper into its individual parts.
One of the component parts of the traditional news paper was the “funnies”.
The team began by looking at the traditional cartoons presented in print format and we simply asked ourselves;
“Would Cartoons be more appealing if they were created collaboratively?”
We assumed they would be, so I asked a friend and fellow cartoonist Steve J. Tansley from BluePencil Unlimited to lunch to ask him what he thought. Steve not only thought it was a novel approach; he jumped at the opportunity to help spearhead this adventure into collaborative Cartoon publishing.
30 days later the website was accepting collaborators and the first syndicated collaborative cartoon was published 5 days later.
Keep on sketching,
Richard
PS. Stay tuned for the other component parts that we are working on as we develop a new personalized news management platform.
